When the COVID-19 pandemic struck South Africa in March of 2020, it was ruled that mining was deemed an “essential service”, placing the lives of the miners at risk for the sake of financial gain. AMCU successfully fought for safety measures to be put in place to protect these valuable humans during this time of great upheaval and uncertainty.
